SDG01 in the classroom: No Poverty

Pedagogical twist

For SDG1 (no poverty) sheet, our favourite pedagogical twist is:
Constructivism: Knowing___want to know___what I have learnt exercise_ what I still want to learn.
Ask students to identify what they know already about the SDG 1 and what they want to know. Ask these first 2 questions in the beginning in order to have an overview of students’ prior knowledge and make the lesson more personalized to the specific group of students.
At the end of the lesson/ lesson cycle ask them to identify what they have learnt and what they still want to learn about this topic. In particular, this last question addresses all the possible doubts and/or further interest of the students about the topic.
If you have another pedagogical twist in mind, feel free to apply or check the pedagogical twist list.

Additional material
Dollar street helps with visualizing the difference between facilities and sources within families worldwide based on income. By moving the house icons on the bar and stretching the gap, students can “visit” families and learn about their homes in terms of tools, food, etc. It is a very interesting and visual way to learn. More information about Dollar Street can be found here. People Against Poverty - The Challenge projects shows some successful charity projects in Romania that worked for the eradication of poverty. “Our Creative Director, Josh has been working on this project on and off for years now, with multiple trips out to Romania, hundreds of hours worth of footage and some incredible stories to tell. He's finally put the finishing touches on what is an incredible story for an amazing charity”  Eight is another successful project worth sharing. It organized cash transfers to villages in Uganda and the DR Congo. Statistics on impact can be found here.Statistics on impact can be found here.
