01. No poverty

Amidst the grandeur and business of Butuan City, in its outskirts lie the dire situations of the impoverished rural farmers. But one woman farmer proved that poverty is never a hindrance to live a successful and fulfilling life.

This is a story of a community of Informal Settlers who gathered as one group, strived hard and in the long run owned a land of their own and through the generosity of DISOP; they were able to build disaster resilient houses. Then again the best part about this short story is that in the end they have realized that they weren´t just building houses.

Once the given livestock gives birth, the farmers have to pass it on to another family. In that way members are empowered and are able to build their own sustainable livelihood.

Ana explains us how it is to live and work without electricity in a rural community of Mozambique.

Through Agrarian Reform, the cooperative and a cash loan Rosalinda was able to pay her debt and generate her own capital. Now, she is a productive pineapple grower which improved her living.

People don´t migrate when local problems are being tackled. Listen to the story of Fabiano that gives us an insight on harsh climate conditions, migration and revival of the local economy in the semi-arid region of Brazil.

Relevant skills training can help rural youths in Africa to escape from the vicious cycle of poverty. Emmanuel told the story of Richard, his involvement in polygamy, his family and on how he tackled poverty and unemployment. Drawing on the skills he benefitted from the family farm school training in his village.

We are back in Belgium after two incredible weeks in Rwanda. We came back changed after this experience, many things have marked us.
