Quilombola Education

There are multinational companies eyeing our territory with the intention of occupying it to plant soybeans. That is a great injustice, because it was only with a lot of struggle on our part that we gained our land. Our struggle never ends.

Here we are looking at our community, which like many other quilombos, lacks schools.

Here, few know the value of being a quilombola. The value that our territory has which is the same as that which our ancestors had.

They struggled all their lives to obtain the land we have today. In my community, year by year, ancestry is dying, for it is not being passed on to the next generation. Many are ignorant of their own history.

When we talk about quilombola education, we are talking about the value of our ancestral culture and the importance of our lands. There are multinational companies eyeing our territory with the intention of occupying it to plant soybeans.

That is a great injustice, because it was only with a lot of struggle on our part that we gained our land. The struggle never ends.

We are tenacious by nature. We inherited this from the people who struggled for these lands and we are not going to let our history be erased.

Let us strive for a better future!
