In a community very far from the city of Quetzaltenango, called El Rincón, in San Martín Sacatepéquez, lived my family who were very simple and humble like no other. My dad Felipe Cabrera Juarez, always came to work from sunrise to sunset every morning. María, my mother, took care of us and carried out her domestic chores.
I am Juan Lopez Silvestre, collaborator FUNDAP, I attend the Bethlehem Center One, of Santa Cruz Barillas, Huehuetenango community. located 279 kilometers from the city of Quetzaltenango. And 463 of the capital city of Guatemala. In late 2009 I received a call from Mr. Rufino Carrillo, a leader of the community, to solicit the support of Fundap in creating an educational center of the basic cycle.
This is me! My name is Juan Andrés Pérez Xoquíc; I come from a family of farmers. I’ve had a rough childhood but thanks to God and my parents, I could keep my head above the water with a lot of effort and sacrifice. I have finished university. I have been contributing to the development with the FOMAGRO and FUNDAP program. And I would like to share my story.
I still remember my first day. I arrived way too early and I had very high hopes. My only knowledge about agronomy came from school and from my home.
I am from Guatemala, a very rich country considered the origin for many species; like corn, bean and cocoa among others.
I´m proud to belong to the Mayan Q´eqchi´ town, one of several located at the north of Guatemala. Heirs of ancient knowledge of the Mayan elders, who lived with exuberant nature imitating it in their agriculture, interpreting the moon as rain forecast and planning the time to plant. For example, my grandfather taught me to plant corn on full moon to avoid spoilt.
My name is Luis. I live in the east of Guatemala. I worked as a farmer, I cultivated corn and beans but also tilapia as a fish farmer. I was a supervisor in the development project.
I work as a teacher at NUFED Number 7 located in Horcones village, Atescatempa, Jutiapa.
Productive projects help us identify different success factors, shortcomings, problems and solutions. Productive projects are tools for the participatory transformation of the community in rural areas.
