14. Life below water

The intention is to raise awareness among the people of the Gulf of Fonseca and the entire world about the need to preserve protected areas from pollution and the logging of mangroves, putting common interests before private interests.

Did you know that there will be more plastic than fish in the sea by 2050? I am committed to make a change. We fish for plastic around the world and sometimes collect up to 8 tonnes of marine litter on a journey.

On 29 April 2015, hundreds of dead fish of different sizes appeared in the majestic Río La Pasión due to water contamination caused by chemical substances that had reached the river. It began from the village of Arroyo San Martín to Aldea Canaán and covered a stretch of more than 105 km along the river. This event, called and cataloged as Ecocide against humanity, affected more than 10 species of fish, as well as amphibians, reptiles, and birds. The African Palm company Repsa is accused of causing the damage.
