08. Decent work and economic growth

CAPAM is an agricultural training centre in the village of Zamakoé, four miles from the city of Mbalmayo in Cameroon. The centre's aim is to promote and encourage a new generation of capable rural entrepreneurs to take up the challenge of second generation farming, with the support of the State of Cameroon.

In most rural and nomadic communities, children undertake jobs that are imposed on them.

Having reached the end of my training, the big challenge which significantly poses itself to me is that of my socio-professional integration.

It was sad but true that some jobs were considered as man’s jobs in her culture. But she felt that if she was capable of changing her parents’ attitude, she would also be capable of changing others’.

The youth, backbone of the nation, represent 65% of the Cameroonian population, a majority of which are unemployed. Today, thanks to his training, Koby has stability in his life, has a home and has found a job.

Palm wine is an alcoholic beverage created from the sap of various species of palm tree such as the ´Raphia Palm´. The sap is extracted from the cut flower of the palm tree. Palm wine plays an important role in many ceremonies, also in the Nso land.
