The Sky-Blue Foundation is a space where children from Ciudad Bolivar gather for recreational activities. Under the leadership of Patty, the foundation's coordinator, various artistic and educational activities took place there before the pandemic.
Due to the health emergency, the children can no longer go to school or play with their friends in the street. Many children at the foundation have had to face difficult situations at home, such as physical violence and even sexual abuse, and have nowhere to go.
They lost a safe space where they could learn and develop their creativity.
As a group of students from the University of Rosario, we decided to launch a campaign to donate their first library to the foundation. We believe that books can do something to help these children recover their creative spaces.
We have been collecting book donations all over Bogotá. With these books, we are going to organise the library and a workshop for the children at the foundation. The idea of the workshop is to present reading as a dynamic and fun experience.
We hope that after the workshop the children can go home with a little bit of magic in their pockets. When they feel lonely or misunderstood, they will have a safe place to learn and have fun at hand. They will be able to come back for more books and even spend some time in the library, when biosecurity protocols allow.
In the long term, we would like to have activities and games, to bring the library to life.
